The Expansive Selection Of Black Wheels: Knowing Your Choices

by Ben Pate

You know that black tires and rims definitely make a statement when put on a car. But what type of "black" should you choose? Some of the different "shades" available include glossy black, flat black, and hyper black - just to name a few. Here is a brief informational summary of the three different shades, some ideas of what type of car each goes with, and some very general pricing information.

Glossy Black - This is a color that is lustrous and very shiny. This shade of black goes well on any car with a decent paint job, and is perfect for the person who wants to make his car a little bit more "showy". But if you are someone who wants to "blend in with the crowd", then this probably is not for you.

You could put these types of tire wheels on one of the tiny little hybrids - not only to make it "sporty", but to give it that cute toy car look. These would be especially brilliant, when paired up with a bright yellow or orange paint job. You could also jazz up that two-door sedan or sub-compact car, as well.

Not an inexpensive rim, by any means. New, they start off at around five hundred dollars a set, and just keeping going up in price from there - depending upon the make and size you need of course.

Flat Black - Here you have a shade with no "emotion" whatsoever in its make up. It's a color that's definitely understated, and some might even say dull. It is usually found on those military vehicles that are never welcome in the driveway - unless the driver is lost and only pulled up to ask for directions.

This type of black color is often noticed on those cars that used to be family compact cars, but found their way to the race track. The owners of these cars usually pair these rims up with a car done over in the same color of black, or an equally "serious" color. This product isn't quite as expensive as its glossy counterpart - but almost. You can find them new online, starting at around $400 for the basic rim - and, depending on what brand and size you need, it goes up from there.

"Hyper" Black - This color isn't actually black, but it's more of a silver-chrome in which another color - with the tiniest shade of dark - has been made to peer through. This is actually a very classy look for a rim - and it will make a car look more expensive, as well. You call easily jazz up one of those "gangster car replica" types, and it will look very sleek. Sometimes you can find the very bare bones stock rims in this shade, for about two hundred per set, and of course, they go up from there.

And, in your search for black tires, don't forget about the auction houses! A lot of times, you can find sets of four rims - with tires - at prices starting at around six hundred dollars. However, if this is still too pricey for you, there's always a way to find car rims even cheaper by checking out the many "gently" used sets that are for sale.
