American Racing Wheels: The Wheel of the Stars

by Ben Pate

When it comes to wheels, chrome American Racing wheels has something for just about any ride that is on the road today. The company is at the forefront of wheel designs and is one of the most sought after brands on the market today. They offer everything from contemporary designs to wheels that will compliment the classic cars that have your jaw dropping when they roll down the street.

Anyone who is a drag racing fan will be very familiar with American Racing Wheels, even if they do not actually know them by name. They introduced their Torq ThrustŪ wheel in the late 50's and it is now considered one of the iconic wheel designs for hot rods. It is probably because of this very tire that their vintage lines continue to be so popular today.

There is no denying the fact that hot rods is where American was able to make a name for themselves, but that his hardly the only niche that they make wheels for. They have even expanded into the off-road market where the wheels are truly tested. The wheels that they make for this type of driving have a special coating on them that was made specifically for the abuse that off-road drivers dish out on a regular basis.

A quick online search will make anyone privy to the numerous designs that they offer. There is also a tool available on line that can show the car owner what these tires will look like on their car. It is a great tool to use when you do not have the actual time to get down to your local dealer and need to order the wheels online.

The Twenty Inches Strong, TIS Modular, and Dropstar wheels incorporate the latest design breakthroughs. They also feature the first production 30-inch wheel. Celebrities purchase these lines of wheels because they make any ride stand out in the crowd. These wheels are now available to average consumers who also want to draw attention wherever they go.

As you can probably imagine, the company has worked side by side with many of the top professional drivers to make sure that the wheels will not only meet the demand of the everyday driver, but can also handle the rigors of the racing world. Having professional racers offer their input ensures that the tires will stand up to any test put to them.

American has also expanded into manufacturing forged wheels. Their one-piece and multi-piece forged wheels are manufactured in a U.S. based facility. Forging involves forcing a solid billet of aluminum between forging dies under extreme pressure. It creates a finished product that is very dense and strong as well as extremely light. Forged wheels are expensive to make and therefore this exclusive type of wheel tends to command a high price on the aftermarket.

If you have never seen these wheels in person, just take a closer look the next time you are watching your favorite movie. American Racing Torq thrust wheels may not be mentioned in the credits, but they were definitely one of the co-stars in The Duke's of Hazzard, Die Hard with a Vengeance and Bullit. If the cheap tires are good enough for Bo and Luke, how can you not have them on your ride?
